The cost of higher education is constantly going up, which makes scholarships and grants increasingly more important for students who cannot afford college on their own, or who don’t have help from their parents.
Football scholarships are almost a cliche, and as a result many students overlook the scholarships that are given out for other sports, such as golf. Yes, if you are good at golf, you may be able to get a scholarship and continue your golf education in college! It doesn’t necessarily have to be an academy of golf that you apply to, either — just like with other sports scholarships, many regular universities and colleges have golf scholarships.
Of course, sports scholarships are not the only way to get into college. There are many other options for scholarships and grants. For instance, if you are a first-generation college student — i.e., the first person in your family to attend college — you may be able to get special scholarships from the government and from the school you attend.
There are also tons of scholarships for specific areas of study. Some may require you to simply demonstrate that you need the financial assistance, while others may have you write an essay on an assigned topic.
There are far more scholarships available than most students realize, so it is important to thoroughly exhaust your options before you start applying for student loans. Student loans may be funded privately or via the government, and usually you don’t have to start repaying them until you graduate. But what most people don’t realize is that the interest usually continues to accrue this entire time! So the more money you can get via scholarships and grants, the less money you will owe on your student loans once you graduate.
